- When publishing the name Xylosma G.Forster, Fl. Ins. Austr. 72 (1786) treated it as of neuter gender (e.g. X. orbiculatum) and this has been adopted by most subsequent Australian authors. However, the ICN (Art. 62.2 (b.) Ex. 5, Melbourne Code (2012)) mandates a feminine gender for genera ending in "osma", which is adopted here.
