Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
×
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Commelinaceae Mirb.
Cyanotis axillaris ( L.) D.Don ex Sweet
, legitimate , scientific
Sweet, R. (1826) , Sweet's Hortus Britannicus Edn. 1, 2 :
430
[comb. nov.]
basionym:
Commelina axillaris L.
legitimate
Reference to basionym indirect, via Sweet's citation of this name as "Cyanotis axillaris D.P." [i.e. D.Don, Prodr. Fl. Nepal. 46 (1825)]. While Don indicates that Tradescantia axillaris (L.) L. should be placed in his new genus Cyanotis , he does not definitely associate the genus name and specific epithet as required under ICN Art. 35.2 (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
