- Publication of the name Torrenticola queenslandica has been the subject of some debate. Domin's 1926 publication (Biblioth. Bot. 89: 150) suggests Podostemum queenslandicum may belong to a new genus, Torrenticola. However, a name is not validly published if it is proposed in anticipation of future acceptance (ICBN Art. 34.1, 2006), and this name is accordingly treated as provisional. In 1928, Domin (Biblioth. Bot. 89, t. 35, figs 7–13) used the name Torrenticola queenslandica in the caption to a plate of this taxon, thereby validating his provisional generic name and making the new species combination. H.I.Aston, Muelleria 7: 127-129 (1989) argued that the names Torrenticola and Torrenticola queenslandica were first validated by C.G.G.J. van Steenis, Fl. Males. ser. 1, 4: 66, 68 (1949), on the basis that Domin (1928) does not simultaneously validate the generic and specific names (cf. ICBN Art. 42.1). Since Torrenticola queenslandica is a new combination rather than a new name, Art. 42.1 does not apply in this case and Domin's 1928 publication of this name is accepted as valid.
