Morphological and genetic variation in the Senecio pinnatifolius complex is described by I.J.Radford et al., Australian Syst. Bot. 17(1): 29-48 (2004). A study of the Senecio pinnatifolius/lautus complex is provided by I.R.Thompson, Muelleria 21: 23-76 (2005). A possible hybrid between Senecio pinnatifolius s. lat. and Senecio glossathus has been recorded from SA (I.R.Thompson, Muelleria 21: 7, 2005). Hybrids between Senecio pinnatifolius and Senecio elegans have been recorded from Victoria (N.G.Walsh in N.G.Walsh & T.J.Entwisle (eds), Fl. Victoria 4: 949, 1999).
