- Boronia spinescens was mentioned by Mueller, Fragm. 9: 112 (1875) as being possibly a variety of B. coerulescens. This was probably his intention when he created B. coerulescens var. spinescens in 1877 but there is no reference to a basionym and thus the varietal name can be regarded as a nomen nudum.
