- Ficus microcarpa var. hillii was excluded from F. microcarpa by C.C.Berg & E.J.H.Corner, Fl. Males. I 17: 669 (2005) and considered "almost certainly distinct at the species level" but not formally described as such. Dale Dixon (pers. comm., Aug. 2005): "I have [seen] the type and am of the opinion that it is not different from Ficus microcarpa, it actually matches Berg's concept of Ficus microcarpa very well. The Ficus microcarpa var. hillii that is commonly sold in the horticultural industry is almost certainly a selected cultivar of Ficus microcarpa L.f. ... I am certain that for the Australian material we only have one taxon." Dixon's view is accepted here.
