- A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 334 (1991), lists "Avena filiformis Labill." as "nom illeg. non Forster (1786)". However, Labillardiere clearly refers to Forster, so this represents a secondary usage of Forster's name rather than the publication of an illegitimate superfluous name. In this case Labillardiere misapplied Forster's name for a New Zealand taxon to an undescribed Australian species, necessitating Brown's publication of the name Agrostis billardierei for the Australian material.
