- The name Eucalyptus huberiana Naudin and combinations based on it are of doubtful application. The species was described from cultivated material in Europe. L.D.Pryor, Trans. Roy. Soc. S. Australia 78: 156-164 (1955) considered it to refer to a segregate of a hybrid swarm of E. aromophloia x E. viminalis and this view was shared by J.H.Willis, Handb. Pl. Victoria 2: 420 (1973). C.D.Boomsma, Native Trees S. Australia 124 (1972) recognised E. huberiana (as "huberana") as a distinct species. However, in 1980, Boomsma J. Adelaide Bot. Gard. 2(3): 295-296 treated E. huberiana (as "huberana") as a misapplication to his new taxon, E. viminalis subsp. cygnetensis. He based this conclusion partly on J.C.G.Banks, Studies on the taxonomy and ecotypic variation of Eucalyptus viminalis Labill., unpublished ANU MSc. thesis (1972), which indicates that the type material of E. huberiana is possibly referable to E. benthamii sens. lat., an E. benthamii x E. macarthurii hybrid or a hybrid involving "one or more of these [taxa] with E. viminalis". G.M.Chippendale, Fl. Australia 19: 444 (1988) considered it to be of doubtful identity, possibly referable to E. viminalis. W.R.Barker et al., Census Vasc. Pl. S. Australia 104, 276 (2005) treated it as a misapplication to E. viminalis subsp. cygnetensis.
