Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Etymology:"...named after Peter Nuyts, a celebrated Dutch navigator, and discoverer of that part of New Holland called Nuytsland..."
Comment:Don attributes the genus name to "R. Br. in geogr. soc. trans. vol. 1." [i.e. R.Brown, J. Roy. Geogr. Soc. 1: 17 (1831)]. While Brown indicated that Loranthus floribundus Labill. should be called Nuytsia floribunda he did not provide a separate description for the genus as required by ICN Art. 38.1 (Melbourne Code, 2012).
