Diuris punctata Sm. , legitimate, scientific
Smith, J.E. (1804), Exotic Botany 1: 13, t. 8 [tax. nov.]
  • Type: "New South Wales" [A.W.Dockrill, Victorian Naturalist 81 (1964) 128–138 stated that "Searches in the herbaria at Kew and British Museum (Nat. Hist.) have failed to reveal the specimen delineated by Smith, so presumably it has been lost. Smith's illustration (l.c.) must therefore serve as an ICONOTYPE."] [given by M.A.Clements & P.J.Cribb, Kew Bull. 40 (1985) 655 as "Australia, Port Jackson, New South Wales, Dr White (holotype LINN, isotype LIV)."]
  • Comment: Dockrill's selection of a neotype shown to be superfluous by Clements and Cribb, Kew Bull. 40 (1985) 655. It would also be superfluous under Art. 9 of the I.C.B.N. (1983) as Smith's illustration would serve as the holotype in the absence of a specimen.
