Etymology: "The epithet “axillaris”, Latin, “axillary” refers to the flowers, which appear to be single in the axils of leaves (=leaf-like bracts), but on closer examination one finds the scars of two bracteoles subtending each flower, which makes the inflorescence a leafy botryum as is commonly found in sect. Niviferae.
