Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Lectotype:New Holland [south-eastern Tasmania], undated [1792 or 1793], J.J.H. Labillardiere s.n. (lecto: G-DC, sheet G00131709, here designated, (image at BRI)).
APC Comment:A.R.Bean, Muelleria 27: 227-229 (2009) regards this as the correct name for the taxon known as Eucalyptus nitida Hook.f. in Tasmania. However, M.F.Duretto pers. comm. (2010) suggests the type material of E. nitida is not conspecific with that of E. ambigua and its placement is currently uncertain.
APC Comment:A name of uncertain application, possibly a “clinal form between Eucalyptus nitida and E. tenuiramis” (see M.F.de Salas & A.M.Gray, Muelleria 33: 67-73 (2015)).
