Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Comment:C.Gardner, Enum. Pl. Austral. Occid. (Jun. 1934) 41 gives the name, but does not validly publish the combination as he fails to adequately refer to the basionym.
APC Comment:A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2446 (1991) treats C.A.Gardner’s publication of Ptilotus decipiens as invalid, and attributes valid publication to A.W.Hill in B.D.Jackson, Index Kew. Suppl. 8: 199 (1933). However, Gardner’s combination is here considered valid, through indirect reference to the basionym (ICBN Art. 32.6, Ex. 8 (2006)).
