Etymology: "Named in honour of Robert (Rob) Davis (1959–present), an expert identification botanist and taxonomist at the Western Australian Herbarium. Rob has provided substantial and welcome help in the field and herbarium during my studies in Hibbertia, and accompanied me on several field trips that proved crucial in recognising this and other species."
