APC Comment: A widespread taxon, recorded by various authors, either as an accepted taxon or in synonymy, but not known to occur in Australia. Rhynchospora rugosa has been recorded in an Australian context only as the parent of Rhynchospora rugosa subsp. brownii (Roem. & Schult.) T.Koyama. Rhynchospora rugosa subsp. brownii is treated as a synonym of Rhynchospora brownii Roem. & Schult. in Australia.
