Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Comment:Todaro erroneously attributes authorship of this name to himself in the "Conspectus specierum" on p. 98 but gives correct citations in the expanded description on p. 107.
Comment:A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 1456 (1991), listed "Gossypium populifolium Tod. ...(1878)... nom. illeg. non (Benth.) F.Muell. (1875)". Todaro erroneously attributes authorship of this name to himself in the "Conspectus specierum" on p. 7, but this is a reprint of a section of Relazione sulla cultura dei Cotoni in Italia, seguita da una Monografia del Genere Gossypium (1877) in which Todaro included Gossypium populifolium (Benth.) F.Muell. This is here treated as a correctable error in author citation by Todaro rather than an attempt to publish the name of a new taxon.
