Text:This binomial was attributed to Ostenfeld as early as 1902 in the literature. The taxon first appears in the literature as Peridinium sp. in Gran 1902 Plankt. Norw. Nordmeers p. 188 fig 13. Sournia (1978, Rev. Algol., N.S. 13(1): 26) indicates the taxon described in Ostenfeld (1906). However Ostenfeld (1906 Conseil Permanent International pour l‘Exploration de la Mer, Publications de circonstance: 15) is considered a nom. inval.
