W.P.Hiern, Trans. Cambridge Philosoph. Soc. 12(1): 246 (1873), states under the name Diospyros cargillea F.Muell. ex Hiern, nom. illeg., “This species is cited on pages 30, 31, 36, 46, 54 by the name of Diospyros australis” and places Cargillia australis R.Br. in synonymy. This cross-referencing by Hiern is treated here as the use of two valid alternative names, following ICN Art. 36.2 (Melbourne Code, 2012).
