A South African taxon, recorded (as Hexaglottis virgata) by D.A.Cooke in A.S.George (ed.), Fl. Australia 46: 36 (1986) as "... a garden escape in Victoria in 1930, but ... not collected in the last 50 years". Not known to be established in Australia.
