An African taxon, recorded in an Australian context only as the parent of Hermannia gilesii F.Muell., nom. inval., nom. prov. (and several other invalid designations by other authors) and Hermannia velutina DC. Hermannia gilesii is treated as a synonym of Gilesia biniflora in Australia, and H. velutina was recorded as "not sufficiently established to be considered naturalised" by A.J.Ewart & B.Rees, Proc. Roy. Soc. Victoria 25: 109 (1912), and not known to be established in Australia.
