A widespread taxon, recorded by several authors, but not known to occur in Australia. B.K.Simon in K.Mallett (ed.), Fl. Australia 44B: 346 (2005) indicates this name has been misapplied to Sporobolus laxus B.K.Simon and S. sessilis B.K.Simon in Australia.
