Intergradation between E. limitaris and E. tephrodes is recorded (Hill & Johnson, 2000). Hybrids are recorded between E. pruinosa subsp. pruinosa and E. limitaris (Hill & Johnson, 2000). Brooker & Kleinig, Field Guide Eucalypts 3: 296 (2004) subsumed E. tephrodes into E. limitaris, but Euclid (2006) keeps them distinct.
