De Laubenfels & Adema, Blumea 43(2): 351-400 (1998) took a very much broader view of C. lane-poolei than did Hill (1992, 1994, 1996), Chirgwin & Wigston (1993) and Jones (1993) and included in synonymy C. conferta, C. canalis (subsp. canalis) and C. xipholepis. A population intermediate between C. lane-poolei and C. basaltica is recorded (Hill, 1998).
