R.Sweet's Callistemon glaucus is based on Metrosideros glauca Bonpl., an illegitimate later homonym (non Dum.-Cours. (1814). Accordingly, authorship is therefore attributed to Sweet alone (ICBN, Art. 58 (2006)). The same applies to other combinations based on Bonpland's name. If placed in Melaleuca, the name of this taxon is Melaleuca paludosa R.Br. A proposal to reject the name Melaleuca paludosa R.Br., in order to avoid confusion with Melaleuca paludicola Craven and to preserve the long-associated usage of the epithet 'glauca' with the taxon from WA, has been made by L.A.Craven & A.E.Orchard, Taxon 56: 1301-1302 (2007).
