APC Comment
This genus has been variously treated as either masculine or feminine, although classical Greek and Latin usage has tended to be feminine. When describing the genus Linnaeus was equivocal, his species epithets nouns in apposition or of indeterminate gender. The first epithet with a definite gender was Schinus bituminosus Salisb. (1796), nom. illeg. Similarly, Euroschinus was assigned masculine gender by J.D.Hooker, Genera Pl., 1: 422 (1862) as was Schinus in the same work. Schinus is here treated as masculine, with the epithet "molle"a noun in apposition.
