The status of this name is uncertain, but may possibly be referable to Lachnagrostis rudis. Beauvois (Ess. Agrost. 148 (1812)) refers both Agrostis scabra R.Br. and Agrostis scabra Willd. to synonymy of Vilfa scabra, but indicates doubt in both cases. Due to this expression of uncertainty and since the two taxa named Agrostis scabra are quite different, one occuring in North America and one in Australia, Beauvois is not considered to have validly made the combination.
