APC Comment
Smith (1971: 41) argues that Australian and New Zealand material should be treated as a distinct species, Polytrichadelphus innovans, limiting the APC Dist. of P. magellanicus to Juan Fernandez, southern Chile, the Fuegian region, the Falkland Islands and Tristan da Cunha. Hyvönen (2006: 137) prefers to treat all specimens from both sides of the Pacific as belonging to P. magellanicus. Qld and NSW reports not confirmed by Hyvönen (2006: 137).
