remarks: This species was reported from the Cradle Mountain area in Tas. by Scott & Stone (1976: 136, as Dicranum aucklandicum), who did not cite collections. The Tasmanian record was not confirmed by either Dalton et al. (1991) or Ochyra (1993). A collection from the Cradle mountain area (IGS 3558 (MEL 2101723)), identified by I.G. Stone as Dicranum aucklandicum?, is present in MEL.
