The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.

Comment: nom. inval., as no Latin description or diagnosis or reference to a previously and effectively published Latin description or diagnosis is provided as required by ICN Art. 39.1 (Melbourne Code, 2012). Landon treats this name as a new combination, "... based on n. gigantea f. alba Benth. & Muell., Fl. Austr. 1: 61. 1863." [i.e. G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. 1: 61 (1863)]. However, the name "Nymphaea gigantea var. alba" is not published in that work.
