Type: "...discovered, introduced, and flowered by Mr. Nelson, of Bradway (son of Mr. John Nelson, Thornbank Nurseries, Catcliffe, Rotherham)... A. Nelsoni is a native of Natal, where it was found in an open glade near the Umlazi River."

Etymology: "...discovered, introduced, and flowered by Mr. Nelson, of Bradway... after whom it has been named, and to whose kindness we are indebted for the opportunity of figuring and describing it."
