Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
APC Comment:A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2118 (1991) regards the name Opercularia hispida Spreng. as illegitimate on the basis that the names Opercularia aspera Juss. and Opercularia diphylla Gaertn. are cited in synonymy. However, as O. aspera Juss. is itself illegitimate, and as Sprengel's inclusion of O. diphylla is doubtful (listed with a question mark), Sprengel's O. hispida is legitimate (see ICBN Art. 52.2. Note1 and Ex.12).
