  • APC Comment: A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2118 (1991) regards the name Opercularia hispida Spreng. as illegitimate on the basis that the names Opercularia aspera Juss. and Opercularia diphylla Gaertn. are cited in synonymy. However, as O. aspera Juss. is itself illegitimate, and as Sprengel's inclusion of O. diphylla is doubtful (listed with a question mark), Sprengel's O. hispida is legitimate (see ICBN Art. 52.2. Note1 and Ex.12).
