Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Type:"Hurstbridge, c. 3 km N. of township, Victoria, 37°36′S., 145°12′E., Victorian plant grid N34, 22.ix.1985, G.W. Carr 10391 (Holotype: MEL 1554666)."
Comment:Carr lists Caladenia pulcherrima F.Muell in synonymy of this name, with the notation "nom. invalid.". This is possibly due to the brevity of Mueller's description provided on p. 101 of the protologue (Fragm. 5(35) (1875)), but C. pulcherrima is here considered to have been validly published. Carr's name is considered to be legitimate via implicit exclusion of the type of C. pulcherrima (ICN Art. 52.2(e) (Shenzhen Code, 2018)), as Carr indicated it was only a partial synonym and the range of Carr's species does not overlap with that of the taxon published by Mueller.
