Etymology: "The species name is in compliment to Professor Watson, of the Adelaide University, who as Sir Thomas Elder's representative has so largely identified himself with the organisation of the Expedition."

Lectotype: "WESTERN AUSTRALIA: near Gnarlbine, R.Helms, 12 Nov. 1891. Elder Expl. Exped. (MEL 22128). ISOLECTOTYPES: AD 96620133,K,MEL 22129, 22130, NSW 80794, 76581." One collection relates to the protologue.
