A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 764 (1991) treated Commelina acuminata (R.Br.) Poir. as invalid, and regarded the first valid combination as being made by J.J.Roemer & J.A.Schultes, Syst. Veg. 1: 542 (1817). However, under ICBN Art. 33.3 (Vienna Code, 2006), Poiret's combinations are considered to be validly published.
