Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Comment:A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 1: 171 (1991) lists "Althenia cylindrocarpa (Walp.) Asch. ... nom. illeg. non F.Muell. (1887–88)". This seems to be an incorrect reference to F.J.H. von Mueller, Key Syst. Vict. Pl. 1: 443 (1888), where Mueller validly makes the combination Althenia preissii (Lehm.) F.Muell. There is no mention in Mueller's work of a combination “Althenia cylindrocarpa” and the Ascherson combination in 1889 is thus legitimate.
