Pterostylis fischiorum Nicholls , legitimate, scientific
Nicholls, W.H. (1950), Additions to the Orchidaceae of Australia-III (two New Species of Pterostylis in Victoria). The Victorian Naturalist 67(3): 45-46, figs A–J BHL [tax. nov.]
  • Type: "Woodside, Victoria (leg. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fisch and family, May 1949 and May 1950 – HOLO-TYPE and PARA-TYPES in National Herbarium, South Yarra)."
  • Etymology: "I have named this well-defined Pterostylis after its finders, the Fisch family of Doncaster. Victoria, who, as worthy members of our Club, have maintained keen interest in the study of our native flora, especially the orchids. Mrs. Fisch discovered the greenhood while holidaying at Woodside in 1949. This year her husband undertook a special excursion there to collect fresh material for detailed investigation."
  • Comment: The specific epithet was published by Nicholls as "fischii" but he also states that the taxon was named in honour of the Fisch family, specifically crediting Mrs Fisch for discovering the species and her husband for providing original material. The epithet is thus corrected here to fischiorum in accordance with ICN Art. 60.8(b) (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
