The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. APC Comment:Recorded by W.Hartley, Bull. (CSIRO) 272: 23 (1953) and listed in synonymy of Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai or Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai var. lanatus by various authors. Citrullus lanatus and C. lanatus var. lanatus are now considered to have been misapplied to Citrullus amarus Schrad. in Australia.
