  • Type: "11 km W. of Katherine Gorge, Northern Territory (14°24′S, 132°24′E.) 2 April 1977, C. Dunlop 4178 (holotype FRI; isotypes DNA, NT, K, BRI, NSW, FRI."
  • Etymology: "The epithet distans is used to indicate that the species is taxonomically apart as well as in its site preference from E. microtheca, the species with which it has most commonly been confused."
