Lectotype: J.Drummond; MEL. The other syntype nominated by Bentham (East Mt Barren [W.A.], s.d. Maxwell, at K) is a specimen of G. dolichopoda (McGill.) Olde & Marriott.

Etymology: "The specific epithet is derived from the Greek haplos (single) and anthos (a flower), in reference to the solitary flowers found in the leaf axils of the type specimen and frequently on other collections."
