The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.

Comment: This combination is sometimes attributed to R.Brown, Prodr. 224 (1810). Brown lists Scirpus palustris L. as belonging to his new genus Eleocharis but does not definitely associate the genus and species names as required by ICN Art. 35.2 (Melbourne Code, 2012).

APC Comment: R.Brown, Prodr. 224 (1810) indicates, but does not validly make, the combination Eleocharis palustris. A widespread taxon, recorded by E.G. von Steudel, Syn. Pl. Glumac. 2(7): 77 (1854), but not known to occur in Australia.
