Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
APC Comment:R.O.Makinson, Fl. Australia 17A: 318 (2000) treated G. fasciculata var. divaricata R.Br. as an illegitimate name, presumably on the grounds that as D.J.McGillivray & R.O.Makinson, Grevillea (1993) had lectotypified this and the species name on the same specimen, then this was a superfluous name for G. fasciculata var. fasciculata. However, this is an incorrect assumption. R.Brown, Suppl. Prodr. 20 (1830) described a species and two infraspecific taxa, [var.] divaricata and [var.] stricta, but did not specify types for each. According to ICBN (2006) he simultaneously created the autonym G. fasciculata var. fasciculata. McGillivray & Makinson's lectotypification makes var. fasciculata and var. divaricata nomenclatural synonyms (based on the same type), but var. divaricata was not illegitimate when described.
