The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. Etymology:"From Latin, semi-, half, and nudus, naked or bare, possibly referring to the cone scales, which are hairy at the base and smooth at the tip."
Comment:B.L.Rye et al., Nuytsia 21: 63-64 (2011) refer to a "northern variant", a "variant with hairy bracts" and a "western swamp variant" in this species.
