Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
APC Comment:The name F. carolana F.Muell. was considered by Stone (1982) to be a nomen nudum, and by Chapman (1991) to be a provisional name. This is not so. Mueller provided a (brief) description, comparing his plant with F. insignis, and was satisfied that it was distinct. He provided a name (diffidently) but there is no suggestion that he did not accept it. Blume's name however has priority if the two are considered conspecific.
