APC Comment:
Typification was discussed by Pedley (1978) and in Fl. Austral. 11B: 312 (2001). Acacia aneura var. stenocarpa was validly published by Mueller, Fragm. 4: 9 (1863), based on a Beckler specimen from 'Yayinya Mountains'. The use of this name and combination again by Bentham, Fl. Austral. 2: 403 (1864), based on 'Barrier Range, Victorian Expedition' (lectotypified by Pedley (1978) on a specimen from Yaginya Mtn, collected by Beckler on the Victorian Expedition) therefore constitutes a nom. illeg. Hitherto it has often been considered legitimate. Mueller (1882) also described A. cibaria based on a Beckler specimen from 'Yayinya Mountains'. Pedley (1978) pointed out that the type specimens of A. aneura var. stenocarpa Benth., nom. illeg. and A. cibaria probably represent parts of a single gathering.
