The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Showing Kayea larnachiana
-
Type: "On the Mossman-River; W. Sayer."
-
Etymology: "This new and remarkable plant is named in honour of James McD. Larnach, Esqr., in phytologic appreciation of his sharing as member of the council of our local Geographic Society in the work of promoting the cause of geography in Australia as in New Guinea also, from which exertions botanic science has also benefited."
-
Lectotype: "...typus: W. Sayers [sic; Sayer] (BM), Trinity Bay, Queensland."
-
Comment: The original material for Kayea larnachiana F.Muell. consists of several specimens. Kostermans' citation of the "typus" being held at BM is thus here treated as being an effective lectotypification under ICN Art. 9.10 (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
-
Type: “Australia. Queensland. COOK DISTRICT: Mossman’s River, Trinity Bay, s.dat., W. Sayer s.n. (lecto: BM 000611321 i.d.v. [buds present], fide Kostermans (1969: 427); possible isolecto: s.dat., W. Sayer 143 (MEL 2227335 i.d.v. [buds present]).”

Text: "The lectotype sheet (BM 000611321) is a rather unfortunate choice due to the absence of handwritten and original labels, but we can see no grounds to supersede it. The remaining original specimens are herein recognised as possible isolectotypes."
