  • Etymology: “...the genus is derived from the name given to imperial guards from the Qing dynasty of China, hiya, referring to the prickly (H. brooksiae and H. nigrescens) or very rough (H. scabristipes) armed stipes.”
  • Text: “Gender: Since the three specific epithets currently ascribed to Hiya are not gender informative, we describe Hiya as a feminine genus with “ -a ” end.”
