Etymology: "Named in honour of William (Bill) Holzinger (1956-), a dedicated conservationist who has done much to further our knowledge of orchids in the NSW Hunter Valley and nearby Barrington Tops. Bill was the first to recognise Prasophyllum holzingeri as a distinct species warranting further research."
