The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.

Type: "3.3 km south of Mount Narryer Homestead, Western Australia, 20 September 1991, Peter G. Wilson 1186 & R. Rowe (holo: NSW 249974; iso: K, PERTH)."
-
Etymology: "The epithet is derived from the Latin occidentalis, pertaining to the west. We have chosen this name since the species is restricted to Western Australia and also because there is a specimen of it at PERTH (Oldfield s.n.) annotated ‘I. brevidens var. occidentalis Meissn.’. As far as we can ascertain, this varietal name was never published by Meisner."
