The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Showing Carex austroflaccida
-
Etymology: "The first component of the name is from the Latin australis, southern, referring to the Southern Hemisphere occurrence of this species, added to Blake’s original epithet, which refers to the soft-textured leaves of this species, to provide a link between the new name and the original name. -
Text: "...non Carex flaccida Sw. ex Kunth (1837)." -
Comment: Wilson indicates that a replacement name for Uncinia flaccida S.T.Blake is necessary due to the pre-existence of "Carex flaccida Sw. ex Kunth". However, the latter is an invalid designation published in synonymy of Carex cladostachya Wahlenb.
