Barrett, M.D. & Barrett, R.L. (29 June 2015), Four new species of Goodeniaceae from Western Australia, including the smallest species in the family, a putative seed-article elaiosome and possible floral mimicry in Lechenaultia. Australian Systematic Botany 27(5,6): 472-473, Fig. 2 APC [tax. nov.]
  • Type: "Near Kalumburu Mission, Western Australia, [precise locality withheld for conservation reasons], 14 May 1983, P.A. Fryxell & L.A. Craven 4133 (holo: PERTH 02607514; iso: CANB 332726, L, n.v., MEL, n.v., NY, n.v., SYD, n.v.)."
misapplication: Goodenia kakadu Carolin legitimate by Wheeler, J.R. in Wheeler, J.R. (ed.) (1992), Goodeniaceae. Flora of the Kimberley Region: 892-893, Fig. 274E, 276G
  • APC Dist.: WA
  • Etymology: "The epithet honours the late Lyndley Alan Craven (1945–2014) for his extensive field and revisionary work. Lyn recognised that the Kimberley specimens assigned to G. kakadu Carolin were significantly different from the type of that species. In late 2013, Lyn encouraged the first author to investigate the differences and formally describe this species. We, hereby, name this species in his memory. The small size of this species and microscopic defining characters reflect Lyn’s attention to detail, both in the field and in the herbarium."
  • Text: "The vernacular name of ‘Craven’s goodenia’ is recommended."
